Overview
Use this Wizard to erase data on the device using Factory Reset (all data) or Enterprise Reset (only non-persistent data). See important additional information about reset actions.
Setup Wizard Bypass Note
The Android Setup Wizard can be fully or partially bypassed during initial device setup, depending on the Android version and Zebra update installed.
See Setup Wizard Bypass section for details.
About Profile Wizard Behavior
Settings created automatically by a Profile Wizard are sometimes not removed completely from the Profile when one or more of those settings are deleted manually. This occurs in Wizard-based Profiles that are further modified with settings created using Xpert mode. While parts of the deleted settings might still be visible, they are inaccessible by the administrator. However, the Profile does not execute them and otherwise functions normally.

Setup Wizard Bypass
The process of bypassing the Android Setup Wizard (SUW) on Zebra devices varies by Android and MX versions and whether devices contain the latest Zebra OS updates and enhancements. In all cases, a barcode scanned out of the box (or after a Factory Reset) eliminates or greatly reduces the number of manual interactions an administrator must have with devices to get through the SUW and complete device provisioning.
Bypass behavior falls into three device categories:
- Devices with Android 13 and later with the LifeGuard and/or MX updates shown in the table below
- Devices with Android 13 and later without the latest Zebra updates ( not recommended)
- Devices with Android 11 and earlier
Bypass Enhancements
Devices loaded with the updates in the table below behave as follows:
- Out of the box or after a Factory Reset:
- Able to bypass most required Google interactions after scanning StageNow barcode(s) or applying
.binfile(s)* (no need for separate "bypass" barcode)
- Able to bypass most required Google interactions after scanning StageNow barcode(s) or applying
- After any future Enterprise Reset:‡
- Persisted configuration Profiles (if any) are reapplied
- SUW is bypassed entirely if PowerMgr SUWBypass was set to "true" in staging Profile
- Device launches Android Home Screen with no manual intervention required
*Applies only to barcodes or .bin files created with Zebra DNA Cloud or StageNow, or with an EMM system using Zebra OEMConfig. NFC staging not supported for this method of Setup Wizard bypass; .bin files are applied from USB (/StageNow) or device storage (/sdcard/StageNow). Folder names are case sensitive.
‡ After initial provisioning.
Required Updates
The following updates are required to gain the Bypass Enhancements described above.
Zebra strongly recommends applying these updates to devices as soon as possible.
| Device Platform | Android 13 LifeGuard update, MX ver. | Android 14 LifeGuard update, MX ver. | Android 15 LifeGuard update, MX ver. |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2290 | N/A | Feb. 2026, MX 15.1.0.25 (or later) | N/A |
| 4490 | Mar. 2026, MX 15.1.0.25 (or later) | Jan. 2026, MX 15.1.0.22 (or later) | MX 15.1.0.3 (or later) |
| 6375 | Mar. 2026, MX 15.1.0.25 (or later) | Jan. 2026, MX 15.1.0.22 (or later) | N/A |
| 6490 | Mar. 2026, MX 15.1.0.25 (or later) | Jan. 2026, MX 15.1.0.22 (or later) | MX 15.1.0.3 (or later) |
| 6690 | N/A | N/A | MX 15.1.0.3 (or later) |

IMPORTANT:
The instructions below apply to devices updated as in the table above. Devices NOT updated as such require additional manual interactions during staging and those interactions must be repeated following any subsequent Enterprise Reset.
When first booting a new or factory-reset device:
Wait for the "Hi there" screen to appear:
Begin provisioning as normal (with a barcode or
.bin file). This bypasses most of the manual interactions required by Google. On the next two screens, acknowledge and/or change the settings as desired.
Tap "More" when finished with each screen's settings to scroll to the next:
On the third screen, tap "Accept" to acknowledge Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy:
StageNow then launches automatically to allow provisioning to continue.
SUW Bypass on Android 11-
On devices with MX 9.1 through MX 11.9, the barcode for bypassing the Android Setup Wizard is embedded within StageNow barcode(s)*, combining bypass and device configuration into a single step. The processes and rules below apply to barcodes generated for devices with versions prior to MX 9.1.
When staging manually, it's possible to skip the Android Setup Wizard on devices with Android 6 through 11 by scanning the barcode below at any stage of the wizard. On devices with Android 8 and later, scanning the barcode bypasses the Android and Zebra Setup Wizards (including Analytics opt-out). If the Android Setup wizard is partially completed, data entered prior to the bypass scan is applied.
* Also applies to barcodes generated with Zebra DNA Cloud and EMM Systems with Zebra OEMConfig.
When first booting a new or factory-reset device:
Wait for the "Hi there" screen to appear:
Scan the barcode below to skip the entire Android Setup Wizard.
If "Hi there" screen remains, press the "Start" button.
Android 11 (or earlier): When the Android Home screen appears, device provisioning can begin using the desired process.
Bypass Limitations
Scan-to-Bypass is supported only on these Zebra devices and minimum BSPs:
- TC51, TC56, TC70x and TC75x:
- Android Marshmallow with Full Image
01-21-04.1-MG(BSP21) with LG patch 8 or newer
- Android Marshmallow with Full Image
- MC3300, TC51, TC56, TC70x, TC75x and VC80x:
- Android Nougat with Full Image
01-01-49NG-00-A(BSP49) or newer
- Android Nougat with Full Image
- TC20/TC25 devices:
- Android Nougat with Full Image
04-14-30-0-NG-00-M1or newer
- Android Nougat with Full Image
IMPORTANT NOTES
- On devices with MX 7.1 (or later), it is possible to automatically bypass the Android Setup Wizard (also known as the "Welcome Screen") following an Enterprise Reset using the Power Manager CSP. More about Power Manager's Setup Wizard Bypass parameter.
- On devices with Android 6 through 11, it's also possible to skip the Android Setup Wizard by scanning a barcode when the wizard appears or at any time thereafter. See Setup Wizard Manual Bypass section below for details.
- On devices with MX 9.0, processing any
.binfile created for staging causes the Setup Wizard to be bypassed. - On devices with MX 9.1 and later, a security check upon scanning the bypass barcode ensures that bypass occurs only if the StageNow Profile was created using MX 9.1 or later.
Other Notes
- Android Setup-wizard bypass applies only to GMS devices; non-GMS devices do not employ the SUW.
- Scan-to-bypass functionality is present in all BSPs newer than those listed above.
- Go to Settings > About phone > Build number to display the BSP in a device.
Update Device
To update a device for use with the bypass barcode, visit to the relevant page below and follow instructions there.
- TC51, TC56, TC70x, TC75x OS update page - Android M, N or newer
- MC33 OS update page - Android N or newer
- VC80x OS update page - Android N or newer
- TC20/TC25 OS update page - Android N or newer
Android 6-11 only
Scanning the barcode below during any part of the Setup Wizard skips the remainder of the SUW, opens the Android Home screen and runs the StageNow client, allowing device-staging barcodes to be scanned to set up the device.
Scanning the SUW bypass barcode signifies acceptance of Google Privacy Policy and Google Terms of Service.
