Cellular Data

Wireless Insights 3.0

Overview

This section describes the cellular data captured by Wireless Insights from Zebra Android devices. This information is sent to Zebra DNA (ZDNA) Cloud for analytics and visualization, and includes failure events, performance degradation metrics, and location data. These insights help to quickly identify the root cause of issues and resolve them across a device fleet.

Data Collected

Key Feature Cellular Data
Failure Event
  • Out of Service (OOS): The device cannot find a usable network signal.
  • Acquisition Failures: Inability to register on the network, identified by specific rejection cause codes.
  • Data Disconnections: Sudden loss of the device's internet (IP) connection.
  • Voice Call Failures: Inability to initiate or maintain a voice call (both CS and VoLTE/VoNR), often identified by specific error codes.
  • Handover Failures: Inability to switch between cells (e.g., inter-frequency, IRAT), resulting in dropped calls, data stalls, or loss of service etc.
Performance Degradation
  • Handovers: Rapid and frequent switching (ping-pongs) between cells, indicating network instability. This includes switches between frequencies (Inter-frequency) or technologies like 5G to 4G (IRAT).
  • Signal Strength & Quality: Core radio metrics. Strength (RSRP) measures the signal's power. Quality (RSRQ/SINR) measures the signal's clarity over background noise, including neighbor cell signal and cell information.
  • IMS status (IP Multimedia Subsystem): Captures registration status and capabilities to determine VoLTE/VoNR, VoWiFi and RCS issues, as well as SRVV call drops.
  • Block Error Rate (BLER): The percentage of data packets that are corrupted and require retransmission. High BLER directly reduces data speed.
    • Cell Interference: Diagnosed when signal strength is good, but signal quality is poor (low SINR, CQI, MCS), indicating a strong but noisy signal.
    • Poor Coverage: Diagnosed when signal strength is poor (low RSRP) with a high Timing Advance (TA).
Supportive Data
  • Device Information: The device's model, serial number, and modem software/configuration versions (MBN/QCN). Used to isolate device-specific bugs from network-wide problems.
  • Location information: Location information such as longitude, latitude as well speed to find the location of any issue occurrence, especially helps determining mobility issues.
